Some tweaks to Justin

So, I wasn't happy with the eyes, I've changed them a bit. I also got the toon shader set up better than last time. I'm going for something more expressive, so the eyes are bigger than before. Hopefully they won't get too out of control and anime-like. If anything, I feel like it's going in the direction of modern (80's-00's) Disney 2D style. Which I'm ok with.
Also worth noting: he's in a neutral facial expression here.

Cheer up, Emo Kid

Emotions are an important part of people's lives, thus, they will be important in The Underground. Here's Justin, the character I made last week, displaying the basic universal facial expressions that correspond to emotions that we all have. Test your ability to "read people" by answering the poll questions to see if you and everyone else can get them right. I'll reveal the answers in a later post. For now, do your best!

Today has been mostly a learning day. I decided I wanted to rig and pose/animate my new model, but given my limited experience I've had to study up on it a bit. The posted video, along with Jeff Lew's Learning 3D Character Animation. I really like Lew's idea of keeping things simple and easy and fun to animate. I'm going to do what I can to implement it that way in my own rig.

Justin Model

Another character model made. This one I'm calling Justin, and he will likely be the protagonist that you play as in the game. He was born and raised in Raleigh, is in his early 20's and wants to make a career out of his band.

Dialog Tree: An Early look

I started doing this plan with post it notes and it got out of hand very quickly.
Anyways, this is the first conversation of the game, being planned out via bubbl.us
It is, as you may notice, not complete, nor edited yet. I'm fairly pleased with bubbl.us for doing this, but I'm open to other ideas(Namely ones that would let me draw things in via my wacom tablet).
If it wasn't obvious, Red is the player character, Blue is his friend, brighter bubbles are for choices (either player or random) and Yellow is for non-verbal animated gestures, and purple are events where camera panels appear or do something.

1st Model in Game

Here's ChaiLai in one of the frames of the game, along with all the placeholder art, lol. You should expect to see some facial animation (along with the eyes and mouth, kinda useful parts of the face) along with some posing and stuff. I'm also working on another character.

By the way, I love how easy things are in Unity. Blender has been quite a help too, although it is still a bit quirky as always. The new (beta)version seems to be fixing that a bit.

ChaiLai Model Progress

The first character model I'm making for my game "The Underground." Her name is ChaiLai and she's a student at NCState that's from Thailand. (Yeah the characters and scenarios are all fictional, but the places and themes are real)
